GIS- 23 December 2024: Security of pilgrims is of the utmost importance for Thaipoosam Cavadee and Maha Shivaratree which will both be celebrated in February 2025. This Statement was made this afternoon by the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchadra Ramgoolam, who was chairing a Taskforce Meeting with concerned stakeholders at the New Treasury Building in Port-Louis. Various Ministers were also present.
Regulations will come into force to ensure the dimensions of Kanwars both in length and width announced Prime Minister Ramgoolam. He underscored that spirituality, but not a sense of competition, should prevail during this pious period.
He added that discipline and a sense of self-sacrifice should be the motto of each pilgrim while undertaking the pilgrimage and this in turn will ensure that the celebrations of both Thaipoosam Cavadee and Maha Shivaratree will take place in the best of conditions.
Prime Minister Ramgoolam stated that his meeting with the stakeholders was more of a dialogue so that he could get the views of all those concerned and address various issues to ensure the smooth running of the two religious celebrations. He pointed out that proper health services will also be provided on 24 hour basis.
Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam announced that a site visit will be carried out at Ganga Talao during January 2025 and that he will be accompanied by various Ministers.
