GIS – 11 Sep 2024: The Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Shri Narendra Modi, reaffirmed their shared vision for peace and prosperity in the Indian Ocean Region and for the Global South today during delegation level talks and exchanges of Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) in Varanasi.
Both sides comprehensively reviewed the Enhanced Strategic Partnership and identified new opportunities to deepen collaboration across sectors of mutual interest that will drive shared prosperity for both countries, their peoples, and the region.
Prime Minister Ramgoolam and Prime Minister Modi witnessed MoU exchanges in priority sectors such as science, oceanography, power, hydrography, community development and capacity building.
To further consolidate the longstanding relations with India, by opening new avenues of cooperation, reinforcing shared values, and providing a solid framework for future collaboration across priority sectors, the following MoU were exchanged between the Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mr Janmajaising Bissoondoyal, and the Indian Foreign Secretary, Mr Vikram Mishra:
- MoU in the field of science and technology;
- MoU between the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research of India and the Mauritius Oceanography Institute for research and education in marine science and technology;
- MoU between the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reforms and Karmayogi Bharat under the Department of Personnel and Training, India, to work collaboratively towards establishing and strengthening a digital capacity building ecosystem;
- Technical Cooperation Agreement on the cooperation for the establishment of Telemetry, Tracking and Telecommunications Station for Satellites and Launch Vehicles and for cooperation in the fields of space, research, science and application;
- MoU between the Government of the Republic of India and the Government of the Republic of Mauritius in the power sector;
- MoU for the implementation of Phase II of Small Development Projects (High Impact Community Development Projects; and
- MoU for cooperation in the field of Hydrography.
