The Prime Minister, Dr. Navin Ramgoolam, attended a banquet organized by the Ministry of Arts and Culture in collaboration with the Federation of Chinese Societies and the United Chinese Associations on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre in Pailles.
In his speech, he drew a meaningful parallel between the Year of the Wood Snake and the change that Mauritians embraced during the general elections in November 2024.
“The snake symbolizes transformation and introspection,” he explained. “Just as the snake sheds its skin, Mauritians called for change with their vote. It was a vote for unity, for freedom.”
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of harmonious and peaceful coexistence, stating, “Living together is vital for our nation.”
Today, the Alliance du Changement includes two Sino-Mauritian members of Parliament, reflecting its commitment to diversity and representation.
The Prime Minister also underscored the longstanding friendship and strong bilateral relations between Mauritius and China. He highlighted that Mauritius was the first African nation to sign a Free Trade Agreement with China. Ramgoolam recalled how the Chinese President, during his visits, always reaffirmed, “China never forgets its friends.”
