Prime Minister Ramgoolam meets Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia

GIS – 25 September 2025: Deepening parliamentary engagement between Mauritius and Australia was at the fore of the meeting this afternoon in Port Louis between the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam and the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia, Mr Milton Dick.

In a statement following the meeting at the Treasury Building, Mr Dick highlighted that this is a historic visit as it is the first bi-partisan parliamentary delegation led by an Australian Speaker to Mauritius.

Speaker Dick underscored that it reflects the commitment to strengthen the existing links between Australia and Mauritius, recalling that there are thousands of Mauritians living in Australia. He announced a new parliamentary friendship group between Australia and Mauritius.

Mr Dick also spoke of his productive meetings earlier during the day, with the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Attorney General, while expressing appreciation of their commitment to democracy.

The Australian Speaker is leading a delegation of Australian parliamentarians on an official visit to Mauritius from 24 to 26 September 2025. The parliamentary delegation includes members from the Government, Opposition, and independent crossbench, representing a cross-section of Australian political perspectives.
