Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre to open a branch in Mauritius

GIS – 01 October 2025: The Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam was informed this afternoon that the Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre’s intends to open a world-class multi-speciality hospital in Mauritius for the local community as well as for neighbouring countries.

A delegation led by the Permanent Trustee of Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre in Mumbai, India, Mr Prashant Kishor Mehta, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Ramgoolam, this afternoon at the New Treasury building in Port Louis.

Mr Mehta pointed out that services offered by the world-class multi-speciality hospital in Mauritius will include paediatrics, oncology, spine surgeries and robotic surgeries, amongst others.

The Permanent Trustee of Lilavati Hospital expressed his organisation’s commitment to open the hospital in our country soon. Mauritius has been chosen due to its long history with India and the fact that a significant number of Mauritians go to India for treatment, he stated.

According to him, the natural synergy would be to try to cater for patients so that they receive effective medical treatment locally. He added that Prime Minister Ramgoolam has given Government’s assurance that necessary assistance will be provided to ensure that the project is seamlessly implemented and becomes a success. Mr Mehta stated that his meeting with the PM was positive and fruitful.
