GIS – 28 January 2025: The World Bank (WB) will continue to support Mauritius in its path to social and economic development, said the WB Director for Mauritius, Comoros, Madagascar, Mozambique, and Seychelles, Ms Idah Pswarayi-Riddihough, today, following a courtesy call on the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.
Ms Pswarayi-Riddihough pointed out that discussions with the Prime Minister were excellent and focused on the objectives of the new Government. She informed that Dr Ramgoolam was very clear as regards his expectations of the World Bank. Topics of discussions included digitalisation and other technical subjects, she added.
The World Bank Director further spoke about the Government Programme 2025-2029 while lauding the vision of the Prime Minister. “The objectives as set out in the Programme are very clear, not only for the Mauritian citizens but also for other partners such as World Bank. By understanding the vision of Government, the World Bank will be able to better support Mauritius through its technical assistance and help the Government implement reforms and projects”, she said.
Ms Pswarayi-Riddihough recalled that the World Bank is a technical institution which can assist at the technical level. She referred to one such project namely, the World Bank’s involvement in greening the energy sector of Mauritius.
Ms Idah Pswarayi-Riddihough, a Zimbawean national, is the Country Director for Mozambique, Madagascar, Mauritius, Comoros and Seychelles in the Eastern and Southern Africa Region.
Since joining the Bank in 1995 as a Young Professional, Ms Pswarayi-Riddihough has worked in four different regions namely South Asia, East Asia, the Middle East and North and Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Her most recent appointment was in South Asia as Country Director for Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Maldives. Prior to that, she served as the Director of Operational Services from 2012 to 2014, where she also supervised teams covering operations in financial management and procurement. She has also held various operational and corporate management positions, including Director of Strategy and Operations, in the Human Resources Vice Presidency.
