GIS – 30 January 2025: The Secretary-General of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), Dr Hab Marcin Czepelak, called on the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, today at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.
In a statement following the meeting, Dr Czepelak highlighted that his second visit to the Island coincides with the 15th anniversary of the PCA International Office located in Mauritius. He recalled that the PCA, which has its seat at the Peace Palace in The Hague, is the oldest international court in existence and has celebrated its 125th anniversary last year.
Secretary-General Czepelak observed that the PCA is mandated with international dispute resolution through arbitration, mediation and conciliation. The Organisation tries to be accessible at all times and Mauritius became its first host country outside the Netherlands, he added.
Speaking about the work being carried out by the PCA, he stated that around 220 cases involving investment arbitration and contract-based arbitration are currently being treated and out of which some 20 cases are being handled by the permanent staff of the PCA office in Mauritius.
Dr Hab Marcin Czepelak expressed hope that the PCA office in Mauritius remains successful and boosts its activities both locally and in the region.
