Remembrance Day 2025: Wreath laying ceremony held at War Memorial, Curepipe

GIS – 09 November 2025: Remembrance Day, which is observed to pay tribute and honour the combatants of the World War I (WW1) and World War II, was commemorated, today, with a mass by the Anglican Diocese of Mauritius at the St James Cathedral in Port Louis. This was followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial, Royal College, Curepipe.

The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Dharam Gokhool; the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam; Ministers; and eminent personalities were present at the events.

Wreaths were laid by President Gokhool, Prime Minister Ramgoolam, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, and other dignitaries.

 The solemn ceremony was marked by the customary Remembrance Day Parade with the playing of lament by the Police Band and the observance of two minutes of silence.

This year marks the 107th anniversary of the end of WW1 and the signing of the Armistice which ended the battle on the Western Front at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.
