A reception celebrating France’s National Day was hosted yesterday by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Frédéric Bontems, in Floréal.
The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Dharam Gokhool; the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam; the Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries, and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Dr Arvin Boolell; Ministers; members of the diplomatic corps; as well as other eminent personalities were present at the event.
Toasts were raised to the enduring friendship of Mauritius and France and the prosperity of both Nations.
In his keynote address, the French Ambassador commended how Mauritius and France successfully navigated the unprecedented conditions of prevailing global tensions through collaborative efforts and mutual progress.
He highlighted that the historical visit of the President of the French Republic, Mr Emmanuel Macron, to Mauritius in November 2025 has successfully injected a powerful new impetus into our bilateral partnership, reinforcing a shared commitment across a broad spectrum of critical sectors. This includes accelerating cooperation in the maritime sector, biodiversity preservation, strengthening food and water security and the promotion of the Francophonie and Artificial Intelligence, he said, emphasising that a firm foundation has been laid to unlock further avenues of collaboration.
Mr Frédéric Bontems also dwelt on the enduring fraternal bonds of the two Nations, their strong ties, deep-rooted friendship, and mutual trust, that are anchored in a shared history, geographic proximity, and vibrant human, economic, and cultural exchanges. He underpinned the governing principles of the relations of Mauritius and France, namely respect for international law, dialogue, multilateralism, solidarity, and the preservation of human dignity, which he stressed, remain paramount during this period of heightened geopolitical tensions.
Moreover, the French Ambassador underscored Mauritius’ pivotal role through its rich history, global outlook, and robust economic dynamism, to successfully bridging Africa, Asia, and Europe.
