GIS – 16 July 2026: Mauritius will participate in the America-India Connect subsea cable programme, a strategic initiative that will significantly strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure and international connectivity, announced the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, today at the opening of the second edition of the All My.T Summit at the Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre in Pailles.
The Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Dr Avinash Ramtohul, the Chairman of Mauritius Telecom, Mr Sarat Lallah, the Chief Executive Officer of Mauritius Telecom, Mr Veemal Gungadin, Ministers, Members of the National Assembly and other personalities were also present.
Speaking at the Summit, Prime Minister Ramgoolam recalled his participation in the AI Impact Summit 2026 held in New Delhi in February, where he held discussions with the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, on Mauritius’ strategic position in the Indian Ocean and the importance of strengthening maritime and digital connectivity along the Asia-Africa corridor.
The Prime Minister described Mauritius’ participation in the America-India Connect programme as a major milestone that will reinforce the country’s digital resilience and global connectivity. He emphasised that Mauritius has long served as a bridge between continents and is now strategically positioned to become a digital gateway linking Africa and Asia.
According to Dr Ramgoolam, enhanced digital connectivity and stronger partnerships between Africa and Asia will create new opportunities for trade, investment, innovation and sustainable economic growth, while supporting Mauritius’ ambition to become a leading regional digital hub.
PM Ramgoolam commended Mauritius Telecom for organising the AI Summit, describing it as a timely initiative to foster strategic partnerships and support Mauritius’ transition towards AI-driven technologies, cloud computing and digital platforms.
He observed that emerging technologies are creating new opportunities across key sectors, including digital finance, intelligent transport systems, e-commerce, e-health and e-government. Dr Ramgoolam reiterated that the Budget 2026-2027 lays the foundation for building a future-ready Mauritius and a trusted, intelligent economy.
Emphasising the importance of ensuring that technological progress benefits all citizens, the Prime Minister underscored that Mauritius must remain at the forefront of AI development. He recalled that the Budget 2026-2027 provides for the annual training of 50,000 Mauritians in AI skills while also supporting the modernisation of public services.
For his part, Minister Ramtohul underpinned that Mauritius is at a pivotal stage in its digital transformation journey, with the ambition of building a resilient ICT ecosystem to drive innovation, economic growth and inclusive development. He highlighted Government’s commitment to strengthening digital governance through the implementation of a National Data Governance Strategy and forthcoming amendments to the Data Protection Act to enhance cybersecurity, protect privacy and reinforce online safety, particularly for children.
Mr Sarat Lallah highlighted the company’s continued contribution to strengthening connectivity and driving the country’s digital transformation. Recognising ICT as the fifth pillar of the Mauritian economy, he noted that the sector is set to lead the next wave of innovation in line with Government’s vision for a modern and digitally empowered Mauritius.
The All My.T Summit, a two-day forum bringing together global business leaders, policymakers, technology experts and innovators, is being held on 16 and 17 July 2026 to explore the transformative impact of AI. The opening ceremony was marked by the launch of the next evolution of My.T as well as the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Mauritius Telecom and Amazon Web Services.
