PM Ramgoolam receives Emirates Airlines delegation ahead of New Lounge Project

GIS – 22 July 2026: Emirates Airlines is set to strengthen its presence in Mauritius with the opening of a new dedicated lounge at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (SSR) International Airport, a significant investment that will serve as a new benchmark for the airline’s global lounge network.

This announcement was made by the Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations for West Asia and the Indian Ocean, Mr Essa Sulaiman Ahmad, following a courtesy call by a delegation from Emirates Airlines on the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, this afternoon at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.

The delegation comprised the Divisional Senior Vice President, International Affairs, Mr Sheik Majid Al Mualla; the Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, Mr Adnan Kazim; and the Vice President Aeropolitical and International Affairs, Mr Marcelo Garcia Rosales.

In a statement following the meeting, Mr Ahmad expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Ramgoolam for the continued support extended to Emirates Airlines, particularly during recent geopolitical challenges.

He highlighted the airline’s commitment to maintaining connectivity with Mauritius and recalled that, following a request from the Prime Minister to facilitate the return of Mauritian nationals from abroad, Emirates reinforced its operations by increasing its service from one daily flight to two daily flights to Mauritius.

Mr Ahmad further highlighted Emirates’ continued investment in Mauritius, announcing that the new dedicated lounge at the SSR International Airport is expected to be operational by September. He stated that the facility, specifically designed for Mauritius, would establish a new standard for Emirates’ lounges worldwide.

He also reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to further strengthening its partnership with Mauritius and enhancing its services for passengers travelling to and from the island.
