Indian and Mauritian Prime Ministers inaugurate Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation

GIS – 12 March 2025: The Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Shri Narendra Modi, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, jointly inaugurated, today, at Côte d’Or Technopole, the newly constructed building of the Civil Service College, now officially named the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation.

The event was graced by several dignitaries including the Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius, Mr Paul Raymond Bérenger, and the Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reforms, Mr Lutchmanah Pentiah.

The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation has been constructed with the financial support of the Government of India. The total cost of the project was around Rs 483m, out of which the Government of India funded US$ 4.74 m.

The institution stands as a testament to the enduring friendship and shared commitment to progress and development between India and Mauritius. It is poised to play a pivotal role in modernising public services and empowering public service officers to meet the evolving expectations of citizens. It will be positioned as a regional centre of excellence for effective public service in a modern and people-centric model in the African region.

This state-of-the-art facility includes an academic block and a modern auditorium. The two-storey academic block is equipped with eight to ten classrooms, two video-conference rooms, a cafeteria, a gymnasium, a boardroom, a library, office spaces, and ample parking facilities. The auditorium, with a seating capacity of over 300 people, is set to host a wide range of events, lectures, and seminars.

In line with the Government’s vision for inclusivity and sustainability, the college is fully disability-friendly with accessible classrooms, restrooms, and auditorium spaces. Solar panels have been installed to partially meet the building’s electricity needs, reinforcing efforts to green the public sector.
