GIS – 27 August 2026: The Ambassador of the French Republic to Mauritius, Mr Frédéric Bontems, paid a farewell courtesy call on the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, this afternoon at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis, as he prepares to conclude his three-year tenure in Mauritius.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr Bontems, who is due to leave Mauritius on Saturday 29 August 2026, said the discussions provided an opportunity to express his gratitude for the confidence placed in him and to reflect on his three years of service as France’s Ambassador to Mauritius.
Looking back on his tenure, the French Ambassador recalled several significant milestones, including the visit of the President of the French Republic—the first by a French President to Mauritius in more than 30 years. He also highlighted the recent relocation of the French Embassy to its new premises in Telfair, Moka.
Mr Bontems expressed satisfaction with the close ties between France and Mauritius, underscoring the warm and strong relationship that continues to unite the two countries.
