GIS – 20 Sep 2025:<\/b>\u00a0The Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, highlighted the fruitful outcomes of his State visit to India, from 09 to 16 September 2025, at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Shri Narendra Modi, today during a press conference in Port Louis.<\/p>

Dr Ramgoolam led a high-level delegation comprising the Minister of Energy and Public Utilities,\u00a0Mr Patrick Gervais Assirvaden; the\u00a0Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, Dr Jyoti Jeetun;\u00a0the\u00a0Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr\u00a0Dhananjay Ramful; the\u00a0Minister of Industry, SME and Cooperatives; Mr\u00a0Sayed Muhammad Aadil Ameer Meea, and the Junior Minister of the Ministry of Finance, Mr\u00a0Dhaneshwar Damry. The delegation also included public and private stakeholders along with senior Government officials.<\/p>

The Prime Minister dwelt on the privileged and special bilateral relations between Mauritius and India rooted in shared historical, cultural and fraternal ties. He\u00a0listed a series of projects and assistance provided by India to Mauritius in terms of grants and lines of credit in strategic sectors comprising a Special Economic package of USD 680 million. \u00a0He emphasised that under a grant of USD 215 million four specific projects will be undertaken, namely a new Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam National Hospital, an Ayurvedic Centre of Excellence, a\u00a0Veterinary School and Animal Hospital as well as provision of helicopters.<\/p>

Under the line of credit of USD 440 million, four other projects will be implemented, comprising the construction of a new Air Traffic Control Tower at the\u00a0SSR International Airport, development of Motorway M4, construction of Ring Road Phase II Road and acquisition of port equipment by the Cargo Handling Corporation.\u00a0A budgetary assistance of USD 25 million \u00a0will also be extended to Mauritius, said Dr Ramgoolam.<\/p>

India will also provide support to Mauritius for the redevelopment and restructuring of the Port and\u00a0the\u00a0surveillance of the Chagos Marine Protected Area, he indicated.<\/p>

The Prime Minister also spoke of the signing of seven Memoranda of Understanding between the Government of Mauritius and the Government of India including\u00a0the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Hydrography and the Agreement between the Government of India and the Government of Mauritius on Cooperation for the Establishment of Telemetry, Tracking, and Telecommunications Station for Satellites.<\/p>

Discussions pertaining to the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement were also evoked with Prime Minister Modi and the Indian Foreign Secretary stated Dr Ramgoolam, adding that\u00a0Mauritius should again become a primary source of\u00a0a Foreign Direct Investment into India.<\/p>

The Prime Minister recalled that the India-Mauritius Business Conclave organised by the\u00a0Economic Development Board (EDB) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry\u00a0saw the participation of 200 stakeholders including 55 private sector stakeholders from Mauritius. The advantages to invest in Mauritius and use the country as a hub to invest in Africa were on the agenda. Consequently, the\u00a0India Gateway Desk\u00a0will be set up at the level of the EDB to facilitate Indian investment to Mauritius.<\/p>

Dr Ramgoolam also spoke of the significant progress made across multiple sectors of cooperation between Mauritius and India.\u00a0In the energy sector, Mauritius will benefit from a 17.5 MW Floating Solar PV Project at Tamarind Falls.\u00a0As for the SME sector, Mauritius has secured a grant of up to USD 50 000 for projects related to micro enterprises.<\/p>

The visit also advanced bilateral dialogue in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity,\u00a0and\u00a0technology\u00a0with a view to enhancing capabilities in digital transformation. India will support Mauritius for the\u00a0implementation of an Early Warning System\u00a0in the face of natural calamities, announced the Prime Minister.\u00a0<\/p>

Following meeting with the Bombay Stock Exchange, the possibility for capital market development and financial services was also advanced.\u00a0Other key sectors addressed include\u00a0education, healthcare, renewable energy\u00a0and the\u00a0training of the National Coast Guard officers.\u00a0<\/p>

On the diplomatic front, Prime Minister Ramgoolam held high-level meetings with senior Indian leaders, including the\u00a0President of India,\u00a0Smt.\u00a0Droupadi Murmu;\u00a0the Indian\u00a0Vice-President, Mr\u00a0Jagdeep Dhankhar; the\u00a0Leader of the Opposition, Mr\u00a0Rahul Gandhi,\u00a0and the senior leader of the Indian National Congress, Mrs\u00a0Sonia Gandhi.<\/p>
