GIS \u2013 06 February 2025:<\/b> The Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Madagascar and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Rafaravavitafika Rasata, accompanied by a delegation, paid a courtesy call, today, on the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, at the New Treasury Building, in Port Louis.<\/p>

Madagascar\u2019s candidate for the position of Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mr Richard J. Randriamandrato, was introduced to Prime Minister Ramgoolam, during the meeting, to outline the aspirations of his candidacy.<\/p>

In a statement, Minister Rasata emphasised the strong relationship that exists between Madagascar and Mauritius. She noted that while both countries belong to different regional groups, the Indian Ocean Commission is particularly important for Madagascar and Mauritius as it also links the two Indian Ocean nations on the basis of shared values and history.<\/p>

Minister Rasata moreover spoke about the ongoing projects between the two countries and expressed commitment to bring them to fruition. She further stressed the importance of island nations such as Madagascar and Mauritius in making their voices heard in Africa, and in offering a new perspective to the continent. Given Africa’s current geopolitical challenges and difficulties, the Foreign Affairs Minister expressed confidence that together both countries could contribute in shaping a renewed vision for Africa\u2019s future.<\/p>

At 36, Mrs Rafaravavitafika Rasata is Madagascar\u2019s youngest-ever Foreign Affairs Minister and the fifth woman to hold this prestigious position. Appointed on 14 January 2024, she previously served in various key roles within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Chief of Staff, Spokesperson, and Director of Economic Expansion.<\/p>
