GIS – 23 October 2025: <\/b>The Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, called for a robust partnership between the public and private sectors in driving Mauritius\u2019s transition towards a green and circular economy.<\/p>

The appeal was made at the launch of CIEL group\u2019s Tropical Agrihood project, yesterday, at Falaise Rouge Restaurant in Ferney. Ministers, Members of the National Assembly, along with the Group Chief Executive of CIEL Group, Mr Guillaume Dalais, and the Chief Executive Officer of CIEL Properties, Mr Jean-Noel Wong Wan Khin, were in attendance. Located at La Vall\u00e9e de Ferney, the project is designed to integrate homes with working farms and natural landscapes, offering residents a sustainable and tranquil lifestyle.<\/p>

In his keynote address, Prime Minister Ramgoolam reaffirmed Government\u2019s determination to pilot the \u2018Moris Ile Durable\u2019<\/i> agenda in a bid to address global challenges such as climate change and the energy crisis. \u201cThe development of renewable energy and the promotion of a circular economy are no longer choices, they are matters of survival,\u201d he said.<\/p>

The Prime Minister stressed the urgency for Small Island Developing States like Mauritius to optimise natural resources, review consumption practices, mitigate effects of climate change and foster food security. He also called for renewed efforts to enhance the agrifood and tourism sectors while harnessing the potential of the blue economy. \u201cMauritius has always shown a profound sense of purpose and resilience. Together, we can build a nation that is both competitive and environmentally conscious,\u201d affirmed Dr Ramgoolam.<\/p>

Regarding the Tropical Agrihood project, the Prime Minister stated that it represents a perfect embodiment of public and private sector collaboration. \u201cThe project,\u201d he said, \u201cunites agriculture, community, and conservation, pioneering a new way of life anchored in regenerative agriculture and agro-entrepreneurship.\u201d According to him, this model could revitalise the agricultural sector, create new livelihoods, promote eco-tourism and inspire sustainable development while contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting renewable energy, and boosting circular economy.<\/p>

The Prime Minister further commended CIEL Group for its bold and visionary contribution to the sustainable transformation of Mauritius, highlighting the Group\u2019s strong commitment to environmental stewardship, innovation, and responsible development. Referring to the Ferney Conservation Trust, which manages nearly 200 hectares of natural reserves and protects some 360 arpents as a zone of conservation, Dr Ramgoolam praised their effort to safeguard the country\u2019s natural heritage.<\/p>
