GIS \u2013 14 Nov 2025<\/b>:\u00a0The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Dharambeer Gokhool\u00a0and\u00a0the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam\u00a0attended in Floreal yesterday a reception hosted by the British High Commission to Mauritius, to mark the birthday of His Majesty King Charles III.<\/p>

The\u00a0speaker of the National Assembly, Mrs Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra;\u00a0<\/strong>the\u00a0Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr\u00a0Dhananjay Ramful; several Ministers; members of the Diplomatic Corps and other dignitaries were present.<\/p>

In his address\u00a0the British High Commissioner Mr Paul Brummell underscored\u00a0the\u00a0longstanding\u00a0relationship between Mauritius and the UK,\u00a0highlighting the vision of His Majesty for the Commonwealth anchored in values of unity, collaboration, and friendship.\u00a0He\u00a0recalled\u00a0that both nations have entered a new phase of cooperation following the signing\u00a0of the agreement on the Chagos Archipelago\u00a0in May 2025\u00a0and the accompanying Strategic Partnership Framework.<\/p>

Mr Brummell outlined key areas of ongoing collaboration between both countries. He referred to the first Mauritian officer enrolled in the prestigious Royal College of Defence Studies in London in September. Furthermore, the UK\u2019s Department for Transport is working closely with the Mauritian Civil Aviation Authority to improve safety and security; and the UK Home Office is supporting the Mauritius Police Force in building capacity in cybercrime, investigations, and intelligence.<\/p>

On climate resilience, he underlined the role of the UK-Mauritius partnership through the Taskforce on Access to Climate Finance. The UK is providing technical assistance to the new Climate Finance Unit as well as to the private sector, to mobilise and unlock climate finance, he said.<\/p>

The British High Commissioner further stated that the UK is partnering with Mauritius in becoming a world-class regional financial hub, supporting the establishment of the Mauritius National Crime Agency by providing technical assistance for a successful Financial Action Task Force review, and collaborating with the Financial Crimes Commission on asset recovery.<\/p>

According to Mr Brummell trade and investment relations are advancing into a more ambitious phase through the Enhanced Strategic Trade Partnership, which will drive sustainable growth and innovation.<\/p>

He also spoke of the Chevening Scholarship Programme, offering fully funded Masters education in the UK. A total of 172 Mauritian Chevening Alumni have set up their own Alumni Association.<\/p>
