GIS \u2013 29 November 2025<\/b>: Tourism remains one of the fastest and most effective engines of job creation and represents a major economic opportunity capable of supporting the rebalancing of the national economy and reinforced collaboration between the public and private sectors will elevate the industry to new heights, said the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, yesterday, at the Golden Jubilee celebration of Constance Hotels and Resorts held at Constance Belle Mare Plage.<\/p>

He attended the event with his spouse, Mrs Veena Ramgoolam. Several Ministers and Junior Ministers; Members of Parliament, Members of the Diplomatic Corps; the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Constance Group, Mr Cl\u00e9ment Rey; the CEO of Constance Hospitality, Mr Jean Jacques Vallet; representatives of the public and private sectors as well as other personalities were in attendance.<\/p>

Addressing the guests, the Prime Minister emphasised that tourism is a highly competitive global market, noting that Mauritius has reached 1.4 million tourist arrivals in 2025. He underlined that Mauritius must fully harness its competitive advantages adding that the future of tourism will be defined by quality, supported by a strategy centred on sustainability, diversity, and authenticity.<\/p>

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance the tourism experience, Dr Ramgoolam announced the introduction of a digital recognition system and a new electronic travel authorisation platform, aimed at eliminating queues for both tourists and Mauritians travelling abroad.<\/p>

Government, he added, intends to empower local communities to take a more active role in the tourism value chain. He also cited improvements with regard to airport infrastructure, digital connectivity and the legal framework as part of ongoing efforts to support the sector.<\/p>

Furthermore, the Prime Minister paid tribute to the Constance Group, commending its hard work, ambition, and unwavering commitment which have shaped its legacy over decades. He noted that the company\u2019s move from sugar production to tourism in 1975 demonstrated foresight and helped shape the foundations of the country\u2019s hospitality industry. He added that Constance Group has set benchmarks for hospitality across the Indian Ocean, highlighting that its regional footprint reflects the strong trust the brand has earned from international travellers, thus contributing significantly to positioning Mauritius as a high-end tourism destination.<\/p>

Dr Ramgoolam added that the Group\u2019s progress exemplifies the transformative power of a clear vision and illustrates the potential of public\u2013private partnerships and aligns with his vision for a sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous Mauritius.<\/p>

For his part, the CEO of Constance Group, Mr Cl\u00e9ment Rey, described the jubilee as a celebration of 50 years of contribution to the national economy and of positioning Mauritius on the international tourism map. He recalled that the Group operates on a sustainable development model in line with Government objectives and reaffirmed its commitment to serving the country and its people.<\/p>

On this score, he announced plans for an Integrated Regional Development of the East, including the creation of Constance Village, a transformative project incorporating commercial, recreational, educational, and health facilities. He described the initiative as a game-changing development for the region and reaffirmed the Group\u2019s intention to strengthen its partnership with Government to support sustainable operations, improve connectivity and create new opportunities for shared prosperity.<\/p>

As for the CEO of Constance Hospitality, Mr Jean Jacques Vallet, he reflected on the company\u2019s beginnings in 1975 and its evolution into a leading hotel chain in Mauritius and across the Indian Ocean, noting that these five decades have shaped the Group\u2019s identity. He paid tribute to the commitment of its employees and partners who have driven its success, and reaffirmed the Group\u2019s ambition to pursue further growth with sustainability at the core of its strategy.<\/p>
