GIS – 06 Dec 2025: The 2025 edition of the \u2018Festival Internasional Kreol\u2019, a major cultural and touristic event celebrating the authenticity of Kreol culture, was officially launched yesterday at Mont Choisy beach jointly by the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, and the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Paul Raymond B\u00e9renger. The Prime Minister also lit the festival\u2019s bonfire to kick-off the celebrations.<\/p>

The Minister of Tourism, Mr Christian Harold Richard Duval, several Ministers, Junior Ministers and other distinguished personalities attended the opening ceremony.<\/p>

Held under the theme \u201cOtantisite nou kiltir kreol\u201d, the three-day festival aims to showcase the vibrancy of Kreol identity through music, arts, cuisine and traditional practices.<\/p>

The Prime Minister described this cultural event as a celebration of national identity and reflection of the nation\u2019s rich history and heritage. He\u00a0expressed immense pleasure in launching the festival recalling that he launched the first edition in 2006.\u00a0<\/p>

He hailed the country\u2019s unity in its diversity, where communities live together in harmony while underlining the unifying role of the Kreol language and cuisine. Reaffirming Government\u2019s commitment to further strengthening Kreol in the education system, he spoke of the introduction of the language at Grade 12.<\/p>

Dr Ramgoolam commended artists for preserving Kreol traditions and lauded the hotel sector for its support in the organisation of the festival. He called for the preservation and valorisation of the Kreol language.<\/p>

The Deputy Prime Minister underlined the festival\u2019s importance in recognising Kreol as the national language and stressed that the event is meant for all communities. Mr B\u00e9renger highlighted the regional dimension of this year\u2019s edition, with participation from Rodrigues, Seychelles, R\u00e9union Island and the Chagossian community, while noting linguistic ties with Haiti.\u00a0He also recalled that a report on the inclusion of the Kreol language in the National Assembly is currently underway.<\/p>

For his part, the Minister of Tourism stated that the festival is a key event in the national cultural calendar and thanked the hotel sector through a strong public\u2013private partnership. Mr Duval reaffirmed the festival\u2019s key role in promoting Mauritianism and the authenticity of Kreol culture.<\/p>


Following yesterday\u2019s concert in Mont Choisy, the celebrations continue as follows:<\/p>

06 December \u2013 Trou d\u2019Eau Douce:<\/p>

Cultural activities will proceed at Four \u00e0 Chaux in Trou d\u2019Eau Douce, highlighting the depth and diversity of Mauritian heritage through exhibitions and performances.<\/p>

07 December \u2013 Mahebourg:<\/p>

\u00a0The festival will conclude at the Mahebourg Waterfront with a traditional regatta and culinary demonstrations showcasing Kreol cuisine.<\/p>
