Talks covered a broad range of issues, including the tax framework, the national budget system, existing tax incentives, and the consultation process leading up to the budget.<\/p><p>Dr Baker pointed out that the current budget process in Mauritius appears somewhat outdated, particularly regarding pre-budget presentations. He emphasised the need for a continuous, year-round consultation process that promotes greater transparency, inclusiveness, and fairness among stakeholders, while leaving it to the Government to decide on the suitability of such reforms.<\/p><p>The meeting also addressed investment opportunities, with particular attention to Mauritian investments in India and other international markets, reflecting the Prime Minister\u2019s interest in expanding the country\u2019s global economic engagement.<\/p><p>Dr Philip Baker is widely recognised as a leading expert in international taxation and is the author of a key reference work on Double Taxation Conventions.
