GIS \u2013 11 March 2025<\/b>: The Prime Minister of the Republic of India, His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi, reached Mauritius this morning on a two-day State visit. Mr Modi is the Chief Guest attending celebrations marking the 57 years of Independence of Mauritius and 33 years as a Republic. He is leading a 12-member delegation which comprise the Minister of External Affairs, Dr S. Jaishankar, and other high-level officials of the Government of India.<\/p>

The Air India special flight carrying the Indian Prime Minister landed at 5.57 am at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport where he was received with full State honours. As soon as Shri Narendra Modi stepped on the apron, he was greeted by a 21-Gun Salute. After that the Indian Prime Minister was welcomed near the steps of the aircraft by the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, and Ms Veena Ramgoolam along with members of the Cabinet and senior Mauritian dignitaries.<\/p>

The Prime Minister of India then proceeded to the dais where a State Salute was given and the National Anthems of the Republic of India and the Republic of Mauritius were played. After that Shri Narendra Modi inspected the guard of honour.<\/p>

In his departure\u2019s statement in New Delhi ahead of his State visit to Mauritius, Prime Minister Modi stated that \u201cMauritius is a close maritime neighbour, a key partner in the Indian Ocean, and a gateway to the African continent. We are connected by history, geography and culture. Deep mutual trust, a shared belief in the values of democracy, and celebration of our diversity are our strengths. The close and historical people-to-people connect is a source of shared pride. We have made significant strides in the past ten years with people centric initiatives.\u201d<\/p>

Programme<\/b><\/p>

The Prime Minister of the Republic of India will attend several functions during his visit, including a Wreath Laying ceremony and Tree Planting at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanic Garden, a State Banquet, a Delegation Level Meeting, exchange of Memoranda of Understanding and e-inauguration of bilateral projects at Sir Harilal Vaghjee Memorial Hall in Port Louis. The Indian Prime Minister will have a\u00a0t\u00eate \u00e0 t\u00eate<\/i>\u00a0with the Prime Minister of Mauritius at the New Treasury Building.<\/p>

On 12 March Shri Narendra Modi will be the Chief Guest at the Flag Raising ceremony at Champ de Mars in Port Louis. The programme of the official ceremony will be followed by a cultural programme by Mauritian artists.<\/p>

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will call on the President of the Republic, Mr Dharam Gokhool, followed by a Lunch at the State House, Le R\u00e9duit. He will also attend a Community Reception at Trianon Convention Centre and proceed with the inauguration of the Civil Service College at R\u00e9duit.<\/p>

The Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, last visited Mauritius in 2015.<\/p>

Special relationship between Mauritius and India<\/b><\/p>

Mauritius and India share a close and special relationship rooted in shared historical, cultural and people to people ties. Furthermore, Mauritius forms an important part of India\u2019s Vision SAGAR, that is, Security and growth for All in the Region.<\/p>

The visit will reaffirm the strong and enduring bond between Mauritius and India and reinforce the shared commitment of both countries to enhance the bilateral relationship across all sectors.<\/p>
