GIS \u2013 25\u00a0July 2026:\u00a0<\/b>The National Day of Egypt, marking the anniversary of the 23 July 1952 Revolution, was celebrated, yesterday, during a reception held at the H\u00f4tel de Ville in Curepipe. The event was attended by the Vice President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Jean Yvan Robert Hungley, and the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam.<\/p>

Also present at the event were the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Mrs Marie Arianne Navarre-Marie; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Dhananjay Ramful; other Ministers; Members of the Diplomatic Corps; and the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mrs Abir Alam Eldin.<\/p>

The event highlighted the enduring friendship between Mauritius and Egypt and reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and promote mutual prosperity.<\/p>

In her speech on the occasion, Ambassador Alam Eldin highlighted Egypt’s remarkable progress over the years in key sectors, including maritime transportation, higher education, infrastructure, and innovation. She noted that one of the main Egyptian ports, Port Said port, has been ranked third globally and first in Africa, a milestone expected to enhance trade, attract investment, create employment opportunities and consolidate Egypt’s position as a major international maritime hub.<\/p>

Referring to the expansion of Egypt’s higher education system to 129 universities and institutions, she recalled her country\u2019s commitment to technical education, addressing labour market demands, and preparing the youth to lead in science, technology, and innovation.<\/p>

The Ambassador further announced that Egypt will host two major international events this year namely the Second El Alamein International Air and Space Exhibition in September and the inaugural Alamein Africa Forum in October 2026. \u201cBoth events,\u201d she added, \u201caimed at strengthening economic cooperation and investment across Africa.\u201d<\/p>

Highlighting the longstanding partnership between Mauritius and Egypt, Ambassador Alam Eldin talked about the close collaboration between the two countries in education, capacity building and economic development through various training programmes and partnerships. She reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to further deepening bilateral relations for the benefit of both nations.<\/p>

Moreover, she expressed her appreciation to the Government of Mauritius, in particular the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, for their support of Dr Khaled El-Enany’s candidacy for the post of Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).<\/p>
