GIS \u2013 26\u00a0August 2026:\u00a0<\/b>The Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, received today the Speaker of the National Assembly of Seychelles, Mrs Azarel Ernesta, at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis, as part of a benchmarking visit to strengthening parliamentary cooperation and promoting the exchange of experiences between Mauritius and Seychelles. She was accompanied by Parliamentarians namely Mr Colin Tirant and Mr Wilbert Herminie.<\/p>

The meeting provided an opportunity for the Speaker and parliamentarians to gain insights into the functioning of Mauritius\u2019 National Assembly and to share views on parliamentary practices as well as identify areas of common interests between the two countries.<\/p>

In a statement, Mrs Ernesta described her meeting with the Prime Minister as \u201ca privilege and an honour\u201d, highlighting the importance of continued cooperation and institutional exchanges between the parliamentary institutions of Mauritius and Seychelles.<\/p>

Discussions also focused on the respective relationships between the executive and the legislature in the two countries. Mrs Ernesta noted that in Mauritius, the Prime Minister, as Head of Government, is also a Member of Parliament and participates in parliamentary proceedings while in Seychelles, the President, who is Head of Government, operates outside the National Assembly, with the Executive and Parliament functioning separately.<\/p>

The Speaker of the Seychelles National Assembly also pointed out that parliamentary procedures in Seychelles, including Private Notice Questions from the Leader of the Opposition, follow similar lines to that of Mauritius.<\/p>
