The growing friendship and the strengthening of the partnership between Mauritius and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia were highlighted, yesterday, at a reception, held at the RM Garden in Trianon, to mark the 96th National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in the presence of the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Dharambeer Gokhool, and the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam.<\/p>

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Fayez Meshel Altemyat, Ministers, Members of the National Assembly, and other dignitaries, were also present.<\/p>

Observed annually on 23 September, the Day commemorated the historic unification of the Kingdom in 1932 by founder King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud. The theme retained for this year\u2019s celebrations is \u2018Our Pride is in our Nature\u2019, reflecting the country\u2019s vision for a sustainable and prosperous future.<\/p>

In his keynote address, Ambassador Altemyat underscored the Kingdom\u2019s ongoing transformation under Saudi Vision 2030, describing it as an ambitious national programme aimed at opening new horizons for development, innovation and opportunity. He also reflected on the significant achievements made by Saudi Arabia over the years and expressed confidence in the Kingdom\u2019s continued progress, and in a brighter and more prosperous future for its people.<\/p>

Moreover, he highlighted the longstanding bonds between Mauritius and Saudi Arabia, describing the relationship as one built on mutual respect, shared values, and a common commitment to peace, development, and prosperity. \u201cThe Day,\u201d he observed, \u201cprovides an opportunity to celebrate the growing friendship and the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two countries in the fields of culture, tourism, aviation, fisheries, health and financial crime prevention.\u201d<\/p>

Looking ahead, Ambassador Altemyat stressed the importance of further deepening bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly trade and investment, renewable energy and technology. He noted that the Kingdom remains committed to supporting Mauritius\u2019 development priorities and to exploring new avenues for mutually beneficial cooperation.<\/p>

In this context, he dwelt on the role of the Saudi Fund for Development in supporting initiatives in key areas such as healthcare, water, sports and social housing, as well as national infrastructure and urban development. \u201cSuch support,\u201d he noted, \u201cforms part of Saudi Arabia\u2019s broader commitment to contributing to sustainable development and enhancing the well-being of the Mauritian population.\u201d<\/p>
